One of my favourite car C.D.'s is Fleet Foxes, it's great to sing along to as it's forgiving of a certain out of tuneness.
For me, it conjures up the lives of
slightly surreal American settlers with strong echoes of 17th Century England.

If you know the track - email me and let me know..

I have been making space in the studio. Clearing out and tidying what is left giving myself room to start some new work. I have to get some square canvases for these so will be checking out the options online for a bulk purchase.
I came across an artist called Zdzisław Beksiński yesterday have a look at this web page on the boredpanda web site.

Collage No 3 - A Love Object.

I need a new water colour pad - the glued round the edges type.

I always had problems doing it the old fashioned way, stretching water colour paper was a very hit and miss affair for me so a block is great.
It can still buckle a bit as did with this collage - but a spray water mist on the reverse tomorrow and a slow weighted dry will sort it out.. Hope you like - let me know if you don't, or do...

Don't forget Art Fair East 5 - 7th June St Andrew's Hall Norwich I will be showing work with 4 other amazing artists and it would be lovely to see you. You can see their work by using the link above for The Collective

Although I can take my prints of cats and dogs to Art Fair East, I can't take giclee prints of paintings. So I am working on a few collages to add to my print rack.

The Collage here is "The Heart of a Broken Story" I have a few more elements to add and a wash or two to carry out. before it is finished
I have 2 versions of this and I will post the other in a few days.
If you can't get to the fair - email me if you would like to know more about the collage.. link to email top right of the page.

Just over 2 weeks ago Jess Perry asked if I could help with/do, some posters for Aylsham High School corridor, "no money in it" she said, "I could give you a bottle of wine and a bit of my work."
Jess gave me the titles and her idea of how they could be styled and I set to work.
It is passing strange that often the first half of any job is usually quite fast followed by a slower second half, which can really extend itself and it did.
When I found myself thinking - God this is taking ages, I would think of what I was getting - a piece of Jess's work - and I would be back to work.
I love her work. It is witty and engaging for both adults and children, it reflects on society and the environment, it is also really good stuff!
Last weekend Jess called over with 2 bottles of home brewed beer and 4 pieces of her work,
Okay I said we will have to choose which we would like - Jess said "no, I'd like you to have them all."  Totally overwhelmed by her generosity and I will be forever grateful because every time I pass Marigold Chickens and see the Heron - I grin widely. I also have 2 prints and will post pics of those once I have had them framed.
You can see more of her amazing work on her website http://www.jessicaperry.co.uk/

Once I had the main areas drawn, the composition needed a bit more height and I looked for a standing figure. Originally to replace the baby I painted the figure in with baby still there and was glad I did as it works well with the two of them.  I decided to go straight in with oils for this painting too and I am almost finished,  just the flood to paint and a title....

I am often asked how I start a painting.
After two unrelated thoughts/images collide in my head, it starts with a Google image search for the elements/ and motifs that help create the atmosphere and narrative.
Using Photoshop I get a rough I can use to to draw out the painting I can always add once the basic structure is drawn out.
I think I want it colder, icy, Artctic, no place for zebras babies or butterflies...

Festive buying proved slightly tricky this year as the central heating repairs took care of cash put away for other things.
It made gift chasing more tricky but the job is done and just wrapping to accomplish.
I am looking forward to putting decorations up  well actually being able to take down one I missed removing from last Christmas, after the required superstitious year it looks really dusty.

Found time to work though - Frank and Ruth now appear in the latest painting - I just need to put Deb in now to complete all the figures, some details below.

January is usually good for painting - and this year the tax returns will be easier giving me extra enjoyment of the paintbrush and paints...
