I am compelled to create through a wide mix of triggers; a sentence teased from a conversation at a festival, a colour seen on an advertising hoarding, a phrase read in a book, a shape traced in wet sand, morphing cloudscapes, yesterday’s left over paint roughly brushed onto a canvas.
I work in layers of colour built up using acrylic paints, finished with a couple of layers in oil, painting glazes and scumbles to give richness and depth to the work.
My work is drawn from diverse visual traditions including folk art and commercial graphic design and I use my photographs and Google image searches to find elements I need. Personal references and opinions about society and the environment find their way into my work and though the message is sometimes ”dark” I want the work to be decorative.
I live and work beneath the wide, sometimes wild, skies of North Norfolk.
