Once I had the main areas drawn, the composition needed a bit more height and I looked for a standing figure. Originally to replace the baby I painted the figure in with baby still there and was glad I did as it works well with the two of them. I decided to go straight in with oils for this painting too and I am almost finished, just the flood to paint and a title....
I am often asked how I start a painting. After two unrelated thoughts/images collide in my head, it starts with a Google image search for the elements/ and motifs that help create the atmosphere and narrative. Using Photoshop I get a rough I can use to to draw out the painting I can always add once the basic structure is drawn out. I think I want it colder, icy, Artctic, no place for zebras babies or butterflies... |
