Before the Fall was painted for and exhibited at Salthouse10 North Norfolk. Salthouse 10 was an exhibition with work only from current and previous committee members of the NNEP, I was on the committee for the first 3 annual exhibitions.

The painting has both the fall of Adam and Eve and the myth of Phaedra and Hippolytus.
The painting references the liminal landscape of Salthouse on the North Norfolk coast, its flora and fauna, the church with its scratched grafitti in the choir stalls and the old custom of wren day. It places young Adam & Eve in Eden located now in Salthouse before the bite of that apple.
The painting also has references to the Greek myth of Phaedra and Hippolytus a story that ends tragically by using of colours found in Greek ceramics. The young girl is the daughter of friends and called Phaedra, the young boy is Ziggy, Carrie and Alain's son.
