Jenny Holzer Truisms No 9 - Hear
When it comes to food we often do not listen to what our bodies are really saying. Some of us have lost the ability to hear our body saying "eat more vegetables" "eat healthily". We can be overwhelmed with the allure of fatty fast food and unhealthy products promoted on TV and in mags. Eating disorders are rising, obesity bulimia and anorexia few families are exempt.
I began looking for some ear-like shapes, finally choosing uncurling ferns which have a similar shape, and a beautiful uncurling spiral pattern.
I wanted a Busby Berkeley feel to this painting and I was able to use a recently found set of Photoshop brushes that are elements and characters from Victorian circus; I made the composition a mirror image, with a couple of exceptions to keep it off kilter slightly.
